Tips for Telehealth

  • Find a secure, private space where you are not likely to be interrupted. If you live with someone else, consider using a white noise machine, or talking with the person about other places they can spend time during your session.
  • Be sure to do a test run of your video/audio settings before we begin, to make sure everything is working.
  • Try to minimize distractions and interruptions. Silence your phone and minimize all other browser windows. This will also allow for a smoother connection during video chat.
  • I’ve found that fidget toys are helpful for concentration. Consider grabbing a stress ball, Play Doh or putty, or a fidget cube.
  • Please do not use alcohol or drugs before or during your session – treat this as you would an in-person appointment.
  • Consider covering the video feed of you (NOT your camera). I have found that video chat uses a lot less energy when you aren’t consumed with looking at yourself as well as someone else!
  • In case of emergency, be sure I have your updated physical location, phone number, and emergency contact.
